Ricky, Cocker Spaniel

Notta Bear’s Ricky’s not a Newf

One December day, the day before Christmas Eve, Team Notta Bear took our yearly donation to Clackamas County Dog Services. We do this every year as county dog control has an extremely limited budget and is not supported like Humane Societies are. When we went in the office to make our donation there was one lone kennel with a red tag on it, and a tiny, brown puppy in it. We asked about the puppy, they said he and his litter had been found in a dumpster in a nearby park. They were covered in fleas and maggots, being eaten alive. They had to shave them down to the skin to get rid of the fleas and treat them. The puppies were about 4 weeks old, emaciated and a couple didn’t make it. This little brown puppy was the last of the litter and was scheduled to be put to sleep the next day, Christmas Eve. We asked to meet him, and although he was tiny and sick, he was so sweet and his little body wiggled with happiness. We couldnt let this puppy with so much life left to live be put down so we adopted him.

b We named the little puppy “Ricky” and he became the FIRST by name, Notta Bear. His AKC PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) registered name is Notta Bear’s Ricky’s not a Newf.

As Ricky was nurtured by Shadrach and ShellBea from a tiny puppy, he grew up doing all the things the newfs were doing. He would swim in the pool, the river, the lake, and rescue anything he could! He couldnt rescue anything bigger than a flip flop, but he did and he loved it! Ricky has grown into a beautiful Cocker Spaniel, with a zest for life. He has become a Junior Showmanship dog, a therapy dog, and has even modeled for many companies like Target, Pendleton Woolen Mills, and more!
